Taekwondo has evolved as a combination of different style of martial arts existing in Korea for over 2000 years. Some art forms are also taken from countries surrounding Korea. Taekwondo has a unique combination of abrupt linear movements of Karate and the flowing circular styles of Kung-fu along with it the native kicking techniques.

The Taekwondo is famous for the use of its various kicking techniques and incorporating the distinguished style of the southern style of kung fu. It works on the theory that a leg is the longest and strongest weapon of the martial artist. The kick has a great potential some powerful strike and retaliate to some powerful blows. The Back Kick is exclusive to Taekwondo.

Taekwondo is a sport that is prevalent in both males and females and of many ages. Taekwondo helps to develop strength speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina.

This is shown in the practice of breaking the boards that require the union of both mental and physical strength. You need to master the physical techniques and have the concentration to focus on ones strength.

Mostly you would find a Taekwondo student wearing a white uniform with a belt around or a uniform of any other color where the belt remains a compulsory.

'Tae Kwon Do' is a combination of three Korean words: when we use the word tae, we say to kick or hit with the feet. When we say kwon, we mean either to hit with the hand or punch. Last, the word do means a Japanese word for art or style or “way”. If we translate the word ‘Tae Kwon Do’, we would see that it means is 'The Art of Kicking and Punching.

Traditionally tae kwon do had opposed sports. As it was never competition oriented. It believed more in training focuses on traditional self-defense techniques and adds value to this young form of martial art.

Tae Kwon Do is now divided into two styles: i.e. the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF) and the International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF). Their head quarters are located at Kokkinos in South Korea

In the International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF) rules allow a punch on the head and gives bigger credit to a spectacular air borne kick. You would find that the obligatory headgear and body armor at Olympic would go missing while in ITF tournaments. During these matches, only a protective padding is provided for the feet and the fists.

There may be certain sparring rules, but the two Tae Kwon Do divisions basically work on the same principal. In here, they mainly deal with taking advantage of the leg. This is because of the leg’s longer reach and relatively greater power. If you want to train yourself with a rigorous martial art and that too the hard style, then you need to put in hours of practice and body conditioning. You need learn the art of blocking, kicking, fist, and even hand strikes. Tae Kwon Do fights techniques and incorporates various leg sweeps, throws, and trapping/locking.
